Israel has sworn in retired Major-General Eyal Zamir as its new army chief, replacing Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, who resigned in January over the military’s security and intelligence failures during Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack. Zamir pledged to press towards “victory” in Gaza.
