A BNP leader was mobbed by students and the public in Dhanmondi-32 area on suspicion of being an Awami League member. The incident took place on Wednesday (February 5) at around 1:45 am. The BNP leader’s name is Akhter Hossain. His home is in Firozpur. He also claims to be a member of the local BNP.
It is learnt that someone shouted at him calling him an Awami League agent. Some people nearby asked him to be arrested. When word got out, some people around him started mobbing him, thinking he was an Awami League member. Later, after learning his identity, some students and the public rescued him.
On the spot, it was seen that a person named Akhter Hossain was surrounded by some people. At that time, he claimed, ‘I was also in the August 5 movement like you, if any Awami League person comes here, will you beat him up like this?’
Earlier, the demolition of the house in Dhanmondi-32 started with a bulldozer at around 12 am on Wednesday (February 5). As part of the previously announced ‘Long March to Dhanmondi-32’ program, students and the public began gathering from Shahbagh towards Dhanmondi-32 in the evening.
Since 8 pm, the main gate of the house at Dhanmondi-32, the sculpture of Sheikh Mujib, murals, doors and windows, and many other things have been broken.
It can be seen on the ground that students and the public have been gathering at Dhanmondi-32 since evening. The protesters made the area lively with various slogans like ‘Burn it, burn it, burn it’, ‘Destroy it, crush it, the den of fascism’.
